-) Open the page we would like to edit in another tab if we haven't done so already ( from now on I will be referring to the page being edited )
-    Note: If everything is set up right then only one page should be editable
-) Just outside of the right edge of the page there should be several grey symbols, the top most one looking like a pen. Hover over it and it should read "Edit this page". Click that one to start editing.
-) If you can see that the page turned into a sort of text editor ( i.e. Notepad, Word, Google Doc ) then you are in edit mode! At the top of every page being edited should read:
-    "Edit the page and hit ''Save''. See [[wiki:syntax|Formatting Syntax]] for Wiki syntax. Please edit the page only if you can **improve** it. If you want to test some things, learn to make your first steps on the [[playground:playground|playground.]]"
-    **Syntax** is just the rules about how you write the markup. It's like grammar for code. If you break the rules, your page might look broken—or not show up at all.
-    **Markup** is a language for computers. A system of //tags// or //code// used to structure and format content so computers (like web browsers) know how to display it.
-    [[wiki:syntax|Formatting Syntax]] will take you to an in depth wiki page on every editing feature of DokuWiki.

-) Below that message is a button that looks like this ''Toggle syntax <-> visual editor'' give it a click to see what markup syntax looks like. Click it again to go back to the visual editor. The visual editor is designed to be easier to use for people who are not comfortable with markup and does the markup for you in the background so that the web browser can read it. Pretty cool.
-) Below that button is a tool bar which should look familiar if you have ever used a text editor. Hover over each of the buttons to see what is available and maybe give them a spin!
